dv8!

Reaching HIGH RISK kids!

dv8 is a Children's Ministry branch of Seed Sowers. It is dedicated to reaching HIGH RISK kids in McKinney's government housing projects! These kids live within the walls of poverty, broken families, low self-esteem, lack of love, and violence. Most of these families earn less than $10,000 a year. The vision of Seed Sowers' is to reach these children early, before they make a life-changing decision with unfathomable consequences. It is a great beginning to build relationships and bring Christ into their world to interrupt the cycle!

Jesus came to break down walls, to make himself known, and to see lives transformed. It is our mission to go into our city and make Jesus known and to see lives changed through long-term relationships. If this burns in your soul when you look into the eyes of high-risk children, then you have all it takes to join the dv8 Team!

Seed Sowers Ministry is partnering with 3eMcKinney and the McKinney Housing Authority (MHA) to launch the beginning of Adopt Apartments. Our collaborative vision is to have dv8 at every MHA property and high-risk apartments in the McKinney area. That is just a start!

September 18th
3e Clothe A Child is once again coming to McKinney. In partnership with several McKinney churches and Kohl’s, Clothe A Child has set a goal of clothing 1,000 children this year. Each child is identified by the McKinney Independent School District as one who would benefit from this program. On Saturday, September 18, the children and their families will come to Kohl’s in McKinney where each child will be given a voucher for $100 to be used towards clothing items. Each family is matched with a volunteer to assist in shopping. This year we need over 600 volunteers.

Will you consider volunteering this year? For more information contact the missional life office, sandy.spengler@fbcmckinney.com

Seed Sowers Prison Ministry

Weekly teams from Seed Sowers are going into the prison system to teach and mentor inmates to build and strengthen their walk with the Lord. They model and emphasize a life of no compromise. Just like Peter when he was walking on the water to Jesus, as long as he kept his eyes fixed on Jesus everything was fine, but when he began to look away at the waves around him he quickly sank into the water. The same is true for our students and all of us. If we keep our eyes on Jesus through fellowship and obedience with Him, everything around us will fall into place.

Our students seek freedom from their addictions, from their life styles, from their childhoods, and more. John 8:36 tells us, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” However, it is important to remember the verses prior to that, John 8:31-32 say, “"If you hold to my teaching, you are really My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." Freedom comes from holding to the teachings of Jesus, literally by keeping our eyes on Him day in and day out. This is the core teaching in everything Seed Sowers is doing within the prison system.

October 31

As partners through 3e McKinney, we desire to be a group of people so impacted by Christ's love that we are engaging with those around us, being Christ's hands and feet as we demonstrate the difference He has made in our lives. One way to do this is by showing compassion for those in our community who don't have the basic necessity of food.

In one of the most affluent areas in Texas:

  • Close to 700,000 individuals live below the poverty line (more than 270,000 are children)
  • Many of these families have at least one family member employed.
The need for food assistance is a harsh reality in our own neighboorhoods. This is why we are taking steps to 'Scare Away Hunger'.

You can help in three easy steps!
1. Grab some door hangers and bags from participating churches. Fill in the information on the door hangers.

2. Visit your neighbors the week of Halloween and invite them to join you to help "Scare Away Hunger". Share with them that many churches in the area are collecting 15oz canned vegetables and 15oz canned fruit for the Community Food Pantry of McKinney. Leave the door hanger with them as a reminder. If they are not home try and visit them again. If you miss them again hang the door hanger on their door.

3. Collect canned goods and bring to collection centers on Saturday, October 31, or collect canned goods while you trick or treat and bring collected canned goods to your home church on Sunday, November 1, during service hours.
