dv8!

Reaching HIGH RISK kids!

dv8 is an outreach ministry dedicated to reaching HIGH RISK kids in McKinney's government housing projects! The kids we hang out with live within the walls of poverty, many with broken families, low self-esteem, lack of love, and violence. The vision of dv8 is to build lasting relationships and love them like Jesus!

Jesus came to break down walls, to make Himself known, and to see lives transformed. It is our mission to go into East McKinney and make Jesus known and to see lives changed through long-term relationships. If you are looking for a way to go and be on mission--every week, then check out dv8!

dv8 meets on the MISD calendar from September through May, every Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 pm at the McKinney Housing Authority Activity Center. We are looking for men and women willing to commit to 2 hours a week and join the dv8 Team for the 2011-12 school year! If you have the desire to make an impact in the lives of high-risk kids (ages 3-13), come to an information meeting on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 12:00 pm. For more information please contact Kim Simpson, dv8kids@gmail.com or 214-476-1997

Incredible Fridays
What is Incredible Fridays?
  • This program grew out of First Baptist McKinney’s “Kids Incredible” program (Sunday am/Wednesday pm-has their own room in the Children's Building).  There is no age limit to this respite program.  We do not require families to be or become church members.  This is a “no-strings” attached ministry.  Volunteers do show God’s love to these children during all activities.
  • Volunteers are the backbone of this ministry.  We try to have one volunteer per each special needs child and one volunteer per 4-5 siblings.  Younger siblings will have nursery care with paid workers.
  • We believe in inclusion, not separation.  We want the children to mingle with one another but there will also be a quiet area with less stimulation for those children that need it.
  • We know parents are the best trainers for their children.  Parents know their child's needs and know how to best deal with any situation or issue.  We ask parents to spend 3-5 minutes at the beginning of each  evening to talk with their child's volunteer about their child.
How can I help?
  • First, and most importantly, you can pray about all aspects of this new ministry.
  • You can volunteer!  Once a month or once a year.
  • You can have someone come talk to your BFG about Incredible Fridays to spread the word and get more volunteers.  Your BFG can provide volunteers for one month or provide dinner for the volunteers for one month.
  • You can spread the word in our community about this program.  We have flyers that you can distribute.
  • Your BFG can donate gift cards to local restaurants or movie theaters for the parents of these children to use on their night off.
